ST. JULIAN CHURCH
The Saint-Julien church in Vertolaye features beautifully restored wall paintings and several polychrome wooden statues.
The 15th-century church was restored in the late 19th century by architect Jules Painchaud. He gave it the look of churches built in the Southern Gothic style, an architectural style in vogue in the Livradois region. The church features beautifully restored murals, as well as several statues: a 14th-century Virgin and Child sitting in marbled wood, listed as a Monument Historique, a 17th-century Virgin and Child in polychrome wood and a wooden Saint Roch, and the 19th-century polychrome wooden equestrian group La Charité de saint Martin.
