O SIRENO
Contemporary sculpture that represents a creature half-man half-fish, which has become an emblematic monument of modern Vigo
Standing on the Puerta del Sol since 1991, this contemporary sculpture represents a creature that is half man and half fish flying over the city. It caused a lot of controversy when it was inaugurated by the Galician artist Francisco Leiro, but is now well accepted by the population as it has become an emblematic monument of modern Vigo. The first European sculpture made of polished stainless steel, it stands on two black granite columns, each 12 metres high, which support this imaginary 7-metre tall figure.
