CATEDRAL DE OURENSE
Cathedral in Ourense with an interior very marked by the baroque architecture preserving a beautiful gothic altarpiece
Considered the last surviving example of Romanesque art in the West, it dates back to the 13th century. The narthex (north portal) was sculpted at this time on the model of the Portico de la Gloire - enough to satisfy those nostalgic for the Compostellan style. The vivid polychromy covering the apostles dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. The interior, strongly influenced by Baroque architecture, features a beautiful Gothic altarpiece. Behind the choir, take a look at the astonishing carved wooden crucifix, where a Romanesque Christ appears crowned, like a medieval king.
