Castro Caldelas is a charming town in the province of Ourense. Its historic center, declared a historic-artistic ensemble, is a real gem. The cobbled streets of Calle del Sol and Calle Grande, which lead up to the castle of the Counts of Lemos, are lined with stone houses with galleries and coats of arms. You can also visit the old quarter of Cima de Vila, with its winding streets leading up to the medieval castle. The latter, built in the 14th century, is well preserved, with its clock tower, keep and parade ground. The locals parade around the castle carrying long straw torches, creating an impressive spectacle. Finally, visitors can't leave Castro Caldelas without sampling its delicious gastronomy, including Caldelá veal and local cured ham, as well as the famous bica, a traditional Galician cake.
