ST. FRANCIS-XAVIER CHURCH
This church is a small enclave of tranquility in the midst of the frenetic activity of the Chinese shopping district.
The church is a small enclave of tranquility in the midst of the frenetic activity of Cholon (the Chinese commercial district). It was here, on November 2, 1963, that President Ngô Dinh Diêm and his brother Nhu, fleeing a military coup, were arrested and executed before they even reached the city center. Built between 1900 and 1902, the building also known as Cha Tam blends Gothic and neo-Baroque styles. It is recognizable by its straw-yellow color.
