GIAC LÂM PAGODA
This ancient pagoda, built in 1744 and restored in 1909, is home to an enormous Bodhi tree and a statue of Quân Am.
The Giac Lam pagoda is one of the oldest in the city. Built in 1744, it was restored in 1909 and has not undergone any further alterations. The site and the atmosphere of the courtyard, shaded by an enormous Bodhi (Awakening) tree whose cuttings were brought from Ceylon, give it a certain solemnity. In the middle stands a statue of Quân Am, goddess of Mercy, on a lotus flower. Inside, discover the bonzes' cult tablets, written in nôm: the language forged by the Vietnamese from Chinese characters.
