BLACK LADY MOUNTAIN (NUI BA DEN)
This mountain, 986 metres high and rising out of the Mekong plain, was a sanctuary for the various peoples of the region
Hill (or mountain depending on what you prefer) 986 meters high emerging from the Mekong plain. Since the dawn of time, the mountain has been a sanctuary for the different peoples of the region: Khmers, Cham, Vietnamese... Due to the "disneylandisation" of the place, it has unfortunately lost much of its aura and majesty today. Another Vietnamese site that has succumbed to the amusement park syndrome with the installation of a gondola lift and a super slide. The place where a radio relay operated by the American special forces was installed and defended by a fortification including a heliport was nevertheless the scene of harsh confrontations during the Vietnam War (1965-1975). The atmosphere is therefore more conducive to meditation than amusement.
For the purists, experienced walkers and motivated hikers, it takes about 3 hours to reach the top of the mountain on foot, after a relatively difficult ascent, but one can be satisfied to reach the temple of the Black Lady (Thiên Thach Tu) whose access is easy and which already offers a very beautiful view of the plain (about 3 hours walk for the round trip). From the 15th to the 18th day of the 1st lunar month, the mountain is the place of a festival which attracts a multitude of pilgrims. During the weekends, the destination is also very busy, and therefore less attractive. Favour your visit during the week to better appreciate this site.
