These islets are covered by a forest of precious woods, rich in flora and fauna
The archipelago is located 14.6 km offshore, southwest of Nam Can, Ngo Hien district. It includes 5 islets: Hon Khoai, Hon Sao, Hon Doi Moi, Hon Da Le and Hon Tuong. The islets are covered with a forest of precious wood, rich in fauna and flora. Many of the fruit trees, mango and jackfruit trees, are centuries old, and this small archipelago looks like a paradise. The inhabitants like to use seaweed in their culinary preparations. During the colonial period, the islets had other names, but the local custom has taken hold: Hon Khoai means "Potato Island" because of its shape. Noteworthy is the lighthouse, 318 m high, built in 1920 by the French, who built a whole network of signs in this maritime region. It is one of the first lighthouses built on Vietnamese territorial waters. The archipelago is rich in historical memories. In 1940, it was taken back from the "French invader". From Ca Mau, the archipelago is accessible via Nam Can. You can get there by fast boat (4 hours). It is then necessary to reach the small village of Tran De by ferry (4 hours), from where it is possible to embark for Hon Khoai. In July 2015, the government announced the upcoming completion of a multi-billion dollar project, financed with the help of the United States, which includes the construction of a deepwater port in Hon Khoai capable of accommodating the largest container ships, as well as a bridge of nearly 20 km connecting the island to the coast.
