BIDOUP-NUI BA NATIONAL PARK
National park home to around 2,000 plant species, including 250 species of wild orchid, and over 400 animal species.
In Lâm Dông province, Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park was established in 2004. It has been identified by the government as a priority species conservation area. It covers an area of 66,047 ha in a zone with altitudes ranging from 650 to 2,300 m. Some 2,000 plant species have been recorded, including 250 species of wild orchid (one of the highest concentrations in Asia!). The park boasts thousand-year-old trees. As for the fauna: over 400 animal species, bears, gibbons, deer... and a species of tree frog that was only discovered in 2010, the vampire flying frog. The park is the focus of several research projects, notably in partnership with the Japan Cooperation Agency. Efforts are focused in particular on involving the communities and minorities living in the protected area. The area is gradually opening up to tourism. A presentation center has been built 32 km north of Dà Lat, enabling visitors to discover the park's treasures. A short trail leads to a waterfall on the edge of the park. For more intense exploration, the representative office in Dà Lat provides information and logistics (guides and accommodation). The major project to open the Highland Safari zoo in the Lac Duong district is still in progress. Species adapted to the climate of the high plateaus will live there in semi-liberty.
