Burials with a palisade of posts, adorned with statues representing the deceased's relatives or mythical animals.
The Jarai, present in Vietnam but also in Cambodia, celebrate the rite of abandonment of the grave by which the relatives officially put an end to the mourning. The deceased are then left to themselves, to the weather and to the world beyond. On this occasion, a palisade of poles is erected around the grave, decorated with statues representing the relatives of the deceased or mythical animals, the ultimate protection for the deceased as well as ostentatious signs of wealth. A Jarai tomb has been reconstructed in the Hanoi Museum of Ethnography.
