Tomb of an emperor installed by the French, who was preoccupied with courtly pomp and enjoyed a certain kitsch.

Khai Dinh (1916-1925) was a kind of puppet emperor installed by the French after the difficulties encountered with the previous emperors (Thanh Thai and Duy Tân). He was concerned only with courtly pomp and enjoyed a certain kitsch, which reached its peak in the aesthetics of his tomb. Built between 1920 and 1931, it is a mixture of Asian and European styles, made of iron, steel, concrete, slate tiles imported from France, ceramics, earthenware and glass imported from China and Japan.

On a adoré : La cour des cérémonies avec les statues de part et d'autre. Le sarcophage de l'empereur avec ses mosaïques sur les murs certes kitch mais surprenant. La montée des escaliers avec les rampes en forme de dragons.
