BÀ DA PAGODA (OF THE STONE LADY)
This pretty pagoda, close to St. Joseph's Cathedral, houses an early statue of Sakyamuni Buddha.
Founded in the 11th century. It is said that in the 15th century, during consolidation work in Thang Long, the statue of a stone lady was discovered. She was transported to the pagoda to be venerated there. During the colonial period, the statue disappeared during a fire. Rebuilt, the pagoda was renamed Linh Quang Tu, but it is still known as "the stone lady's pagoda" (chua ba da). The statue of Sakyamuni Buddha dates from the early 20th century. Very popular pagoda.
