HUU TIÊP LAKE
The hull of an American plane, which has emerged from the lake, has become the symbol of the victory of the "aerial Diên Biên Phu".
Lake Huu Tiêp ("bring victory" in Sino-Vietnamese) is located in the Ngoc Ha district. From December 18 to 30, 1972, the US army carried out a massive bombing campaign (Linebacker II) against North Vietnamese infrastructure. On December 27, 1972, a B-52 was shot down by North Vietnamese forces and crashed into the lake. The pilot did not survive. More than 40 years later, the plane's fuselage, protected as a historical relic, still emerges from the waters of the lake and has become the symbol of the victory of the "aerial Diên Biên Phu".
