STATE GUEST HOUSE (TONKIN PALACE)
This former Palais du Résident Supérieur du Tonkin, designed in 1898, is fairly representative of French colonial architecture.
The former Palais du Résident Supérieur du Tonkin was designed in 1898 by Auguste-Henri Vildieu. It was rebuilt between 1917 and 1919 to plans by Adolphe Bussy. The foundations are made of bamboo piles to stabilize the waterlogged ground. It now accommodates foreign guests of the Vietnamese government. The building is quite representative of French colonial architecture, and as such is well worth a look, even if it is not open to visitors.
