PORTE QUAN CHUONG
This structure was built during the reign of King Lê Hiên Tông (1740-1786), when the capital was surrounded by a wall.
The structure, dating from 1749, was built during the reign of King Lê Hiên Tông (1740-1786), when the capital was surrounded by an earthen wall into which 16 square gates opened during the day and closed at night. Today, only one gate remains. It has undergone several restorations, most recently as part of Hanoi's millennium celebrations in 2010, funded by the US Embassy. Guards regularly patrolled the site to prevent crime and fires.
