The Lê Mât snake village festival commemorates the creation of 13 villages west of the Thang Long citadel during the reign of Emperor Ly Thai Tông (1028-1054). The festival is celebrated with several processions, offerings to the tutelary genie of the 13 villages, carp fishing for an offering to the genie, snake dances and a cooking competition featuring gastronomic specialties with evocative names: the "three snakes conference", the "five frogs feast" and the "carp waiting for the moon"...
