Haiphong's largest market, Cho Sat takes its name from the iron and steel materials used to build it in 1888.
Built in 1888 on the banks of the Tam Bac River, it takes its name from the iron and steel materials used in its construction. It was Haiphong's largest market, but since 1992 the original halls have been replaced by a sort of charmless multi-storey shopping mall. As with all Vietnamese markets, a visit here is worthwhile for the picturesqueness and variety of the goods on display: boat equipment, ropes, fishing nets... The Sat market has been overtaken by the arrival of the big retail chains...
