FORT DU CANON
Built in 1942, this artillery fort offers superb panoramic views of Halong and Lan Ha bays.
At the southern tip of the island, you climb to the top of a hill at an altitude of 177 m, from where you can enjoy a superb panorama at the end of the day as the sun sets. In 1942, the French installed an artillery fort with 3 x 137 mm cannons to control the passageways into the bay; two of these remain, as do the casemates. During the Vietnam War, it became an anti-aircraft post. Today, the museum has been abandoned, but the summit can be reached (free of charge) via a small staircase on the left before the entrance.
