Between 1930 and 1945, this prison became a detention center for Vietnamese opposed to the colonial government.
The prison was built by the French in 1908. From a provincial prison, between 1930 and 1945 it became a detention centre for Vietnamese opposed to the colonial government. The prison was heavily damaged by American bombs in 1952. In the midst of these sad remains emerges a peach tree planted by an inmate in the 1940s. The latter, named Tô Hiêu, also gave his name to the city's main street.
