VICTORY MONUMENT
The statue of this monument, located at the top of hill D1, depicts three combatants standing over General de Castries' headquarters.
Located at the top of hill D1, the 12.6 m bronze statue represents three combatants standing on General de Castries' CP, one carrying his rifle, the second a child and the third a flag. It was unveiled in 2004 on the 50th anniversary of the victory. It is reached thanks to a marble staircase of 320 steps divided into 3 terraces symbolizing the 3 great offensives of the Vietnamese army during the battle of Diên Biên Phu. On the sides are implanted 56 blue granite markers for the 56 days and nights of combat.
