Also known as the Palace of the King of the Hmôngs, this astonishing building on a hilltop overlooking the south-east of Bac Hà district was built during the colonial period by a prominent member of the Tay ethnic group. Thanks to a skilful policy of cooperation with the French, he had carved out a fiefdom for himself in the region, having laid his hands on lucrative monopolies. He commissioned the construction of this building, which blends Western and Eastern influences.
