VIVEROL CASTLE
Beautiful ruins of a castle which would have been built in the XIth century, destroyed on order of Louis XI and rebuilt in the XIIIth century.
The first tower is thought to have existed as early as the 10th century, followed by a fortress built in the 11th century by Jacob de Viverols, then destroyed by order of Louis XI. The building was then rebuilt in the 13th century. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the château underwent numerous modifications due to military needs and aesthetic choices. During the French Revolution, the château was almost demolished. All that remains of the château are its ruins, which still look good and give this little corner of Auvergne a lot of character.
