Located near the CBD in the Doomfontein district, its development is strategic to rehabilitate the surrounding area, which is still difficult to access. Built in 1928 to host rugby matches, it was completely rebuilt in 1982. It is known by its former name, Ellis, in honor of the mayor at the time. This stadium hosted the final of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, which South Africa won. It is the home of the local rugby team, the Lions, as well as the Orlando Pirates soccer team. It has a capacity of 62,567 spectators.
