Historic site featuring a collection of artworks by South African artists.

A historic site built as a symbol, as a place of pilgrimage. Here is the ramparts of the Old Fort built by President Boer of the time Paul Kruger from 1896 to stop English. In this fort, a prison was built in 1902, which was transformed into three prisons under apartheid: blacks (prison Number 4, inhumane living conditions), whites, where Nelson Mandela was the only black person imprisoned because he had to separate him from others, and women's gaol. You can also visit the Trial Trial block where the 156 accused of the trial of the Charter of Freedom in 1956 were imprisoned. Other famous prisoners in this prison include Gandhi, Albert Luthuli, Robert Sobukwe and, among women, Winnie Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.
We also discover the splendid post-apartheid architectural work of the Constitutional Court, an exercise of high aerobatic on raw material and volumes, integrating the old fort into a successful modern construction. It houses the activities of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, which visitors can see in meetings through a large glass window. It also houses a collection of works of art made by South African artists (more than 200 tapestries, paintings, sculptures, engravings, all follows the theme of human rights. There are also shops, restaurants and cafés. Don't miss the view of the city from the ramparts! Stop bus Sightseeing.

Very close to the famous Hillbrow. The constitutional council was very nicely decorated by various artists in Johannesburg. Access is simple and free. You can even enter the room where the judgements are held. A visit that I recommend even if there are just 20 minutes in front of you! Then, if there are more time, there is the guided tour of the former prison where including Winnie was imprisoned.
