KLIPTOWN OPEN AIR MUSEUM
Open-air museum preserving the official writings of the Freedom Charter adopted by three thousand delegates.
This open-air museum preserves the official writings of the Charter of Liberty adopted by 3,000 delegates to attend the Peoples' Congress in 1955. A beautiful tribute to this text which is today an integral part of the South African Constitution and an effort of memory also towards the other peoples who signed this charter. Of the 3,000 delegates, 320 Indians, 230 Métis and 112 whites were counted. This event is documented by period photographs and newspaper clippings, or official documents and testimonials from delegates who attended.
