MAHLAMBA NDLOPFU
Libertas was replaced by Mahlambandlovu when Nelson Mandela took over.
The official residence of the presidents of South Africa was built in 1940 according to the plans of Gerard Moerdjik, who also built the Voortrekker Monument, but this time in traditional Cape Dutch style. It was used for this function after the abolition of the status of Prime Minister in 1984 and changed its name in 1995 when Nelson Mandela became the master of the place: Libertas was replaced by Mahlambandlovu, which means "Dawn of a new era" in the Shangaan language, the Tsonga people to which Mandela belonged.
