MELROSE HOUSE
A house where you can see for yourself how comfortable life was for a prosperous British family at the end of the century.
This is a fine architectural example of the transition from the Victorian to the Edwardian period, and shows the comfortable lifestyle of a prosperous family of British origin in the late 19th century. It was acquired by a young Durban man who made his fortune in the diamond rush before being bought by the Pretoria City Council. It was here that the peace treaty was signed after the Anglo-Boer War in 1902. A lovely garden with a tea room, which is transformed every year into a great place for bric-a-brac and second-hand goods.
