Nature reserve home to two other threatened crane species: the wattled crane and the crowned crane.
For a refreshing dip in the fresh air, you can go to Dullstroom about 13 km away: a 6,000-hectare walk around the Suikerboschkop, the Verloren Vallei nature reserve. In spring, flowers abound, and in autumn, lots of mushrooms (ceps!). A chance, perhaps, to see a blue crane, the national bird. The nature reserve is also home to two other endangered crane species: the wattled crane and the crowned crane.
