SUNFLOWER CASTLE
Castle, former bastion of the counts of Auvergne in the 12th century, decorated with a flamboyant gothic style, kitchens and outbuildings to visit.
A former stronghold of the Counts of Auvergne in the late 12th century, the château became part of the royal domain in the 13th century, before being passed down to a number of prominent families from the 14th century onwards. Hugues de La Roche was responsible for the imposing circular keep, while his descendants enriched the château with beautiful flamboyant Gothic decoration. The tour reveals the castle's complex architecture, with two keeps, a surrounding wall and a main building built around a courtyard. You can also explore the winery, kitchens, outbuildings and part of the living quarters.
