REGIONAL TOURISM INFO
Kuruman has a population of around 10,000 and is best known for the Eye of Kuruman, an underground spring that brings water to the surface in the Kalahari Desert. The town is surrounded by vegetation, unlike the rest of the province, which is rather desert-like. Kuruman is also renowned for its outdoor activities, such as golf, squash, tennis and petanque at the Kuruman Country Club. Visitors can also visit the Billy Duvenhage Nature Reserve, the Kalahari Raptor Rehabilitation Centre and the Bird Sanctuary Nature Reserve, home to numerous bird species as well as giraffe, jackal and impala. To get around Kuruman, you can take the N14 road from Johannesburg or Upington, or catch an Intercape bus from other towns in the province. There is no scheduled airport at Kuruman, but you can fly in from Kimberley, 240 km to the south. As for accommodation, there are several hotels and lodges in Kuruman, including Casa Linge Guesthouse, Sunset Chalets and The Lighthouse.
