BIRD ISLAND
Bird Island is a 3-hectare islet within walking distance of a colony of cormorants and Cape gannets.
How many are there? Thousands! Millions! Since 1959, a dyke has allowed access on foot, from 7am to 5pm, to this 3-hectare island where a colony of cormorants and Cape fools live. There is also a beautiful colony of penguins to discover. The smell of guano is rather heady! For a few rands, take refuge in the shelter... On the Cape Nature site, you will find a lot of information about the country's nature reserves, animal conservation and the different places where you can observe the different species concerned.
