LOURENS RIVER GUESTHOUSE * *
The Lourens River Guesthouse is a hotel located in Somerset West, a town about 40 km southeast of Cape Town. The hotel's name refers to the Lourens River, which flows through the town and into the ocean near Strand. The Lourens River is the shortest and fastest flowing perennial river in South Africa, with a catchment area of 92 km². It has been used as a source of domestic and agricultural water since the 17th century, when the first white settlers established a camp on its banks. The Lourens River Bridge, built in 1845, is the second oldest bridge still standing in South Africa. The Somerset West region is also famous for its wineries, notably Lourensford and Vergelegen. Lourens River Guesthouse is located on Lourens Street, which is often confused with Lourensford Road leading to the wineries.
