It was Elise, a Frenchwoman living in Cape Town, who came up with the idea of a project combining fashion and social life when she arrived here. We All Share Roots bags are entirely handmade, produced on a small scale and in limited edition. 90% of purchases are local and the products are made in collaboration with an NGO. Elise works with a women's cooperative in Lavender Hill Township and a second workshop hires refugee women. The company is also eco-friendly and relies on new materials such as Pinatex, a vegan leather made from pineapple fibres, and entry-level bags are made from scrap fabric and leather, for example. No waste! No waste! It's a small business thought by Elise and as she likes to say, it's about humans talking to humans and working with humans. African-influenced bags, wax fabrics and colourful colours are beginning to make their way into South Africa and abroad. You can buy online or directly at their offices in Bo Kaap (25% cheaper!). The whole range is on site. A local, creative and colourful gift idea!
