DISTRICT SIX MUSEUM
Inaugurated in 1994, the museum's initial aim was to restore the memory of a Cape Town neighborhood that had been wiped off the map.
Inaugurated in 1994, the District Six Museum's initial objective was to restore the memory of this wiped-out district, to carry out a real search for the families who had lived there 40 years earlier, in order to advance the process of house restitution. The families did not know what had become of their neighbours at the time, as many went into exile during the hardening of apartheid. So this small museum contains crumbs of what the neighbourhood was like. On a map on the wall, the inhabitants have marked the location of their old house.
