One of Cape Town's oldest squares, established in 1696.
Established in 1696, it is one of the oldest squares in Cape Town. In the middle of this central square, called Green Market Square, is a large African craft market. The stalls set up here in the early hours of the morning and when Cape Town wakes up, the alleys are already coloured by paintings on canvas. You can grab a bite to eat, buy handmade jewellery, leather sandals, ornaments and many other little African treasures to take home. It is customary to bargain.

En dehors de l'artisanat, que l'on voit partout, le marché lui-même n'a pas d'intérêt particulier - à mon avis ! par contre la place est un lieu historique de grand intérêt pour les noirs sud africains pendant l'apartheid. Mais surtout ce qui est intéressant ce sont tous les magnifiques bâtiments Art Déco qui cernent ce marché et les boulevard alentours. Superbe quand on apprécie l'architecture. (Le Cap, novembre 2016)

Ce marché est riche en artisanat africain. Vous trouverez de nombreux objets, certains assez commun et d'autres que je n'ai plus retrouvé ensuite lors de mon séjour en Afrique du Sud. Bref un passage obligé pour rapporter de beaux souvenirs.
