Governor Simon Van der Stel's huge estate, where he had 70,000 Muscat de Frontignan vines planted.
In 1685, Governor Simon Van der Stel received a huge property where he had 70,000 feet of Muscat de Frontignan planted. He died in 1712, after having produced the first wine worthy of the name in South Africa. In 1778, Hendrik Cloete bought Constantia, planted new vines and soon produced the famous "Vin de Constance" which seduced poets, kings and... Napoleon. Cloete had a cellar built. Almost a century later, his descendants sell the property to the government. Today we visit "The Manor House" and the Wine Museum.

Belle propriété, possibilité de visiter les caves et de découvrir la plupart des cépages présents, notamment le vin moelleux que Napoléon Ier affectionnait tant !
