MISSION OF ELIM
Building where some 2,000 Métis live, administered by a council of the Moravian Brethren Church.
This Moravian mission developed from 1824 on the site of the farm built in 1796 by the Huguenot named Louis Du Toit. The church clock was imported from Germany in 1914. Visit the old buildings in Church Street and the watermill located right next to the temple, a mill that has been grinding wheat for 150 years. Some 2,000 half-breeds live there, administered by a council of the Church of the Moravian Brethren. Here is a somewhat unusual visit to a village considered to be historic in the small county of Bredasdorp.
