HOOP RESERVE
Nature reserve to discover the incomparable bird paradise of De Hoop Vlei.
In the Hoop nature reserve, we enter a temple of biodiversity. Here, there are no less than 36,000 hectares of land with seven different ecosystems. We pass through magnificent expanses of fynbos, the famous flowering bush endemic to the region, which contains about 1,500 varieties of plants. But above all, you discover the incomparable bird paradise at De Hoop Vlei. Mountain zebras, smaller and shorter on legs than the savannah zebras, and many antelopes, including the bontebok, for which this reserve was created. Several trails even lead to the beaches. One can then dive with a mask in water at an acceptable temperature... Yes, we are not in the Caribbean here! It is also the ideal place for a mountain bike excursion: Mountain Bike Trail on 24 km with night on the way. In summer, don't forget your insect repellent as the area is haunted by millions of restless gnats. For day treks :
From Hoop Coastal Trail. Stroll along the beach and natural rock pools, preferably at low tide to walk on the beach.
From Hoop Klipspringer Trail (2h). Circular trail through the Porberg Mountains, beautiful views of the Breede River valley. Don't miss seeing the Cape Vultures on the walk
The Whale trail 55 km, 5 nights sleeping in huts along the way, a great experience to book well in advance
