JACANA
Grahamstown, also known as Makhanda, is a town in South Africa's Eastern Cape province. Nicknamed the "City of Saints" because of its many churches, it is also home to Rhodes University. The city is located around 125 km from Port Elizabeth and 180 km from East London, near the Indian Ocean coast. Grahamstown is divided into 19 wards, including the large township of Rhini, which is part of the Makana municipality. Grahamstown's population is predominantly black, with 72.78% of residents, followed by coloureds (14.29%) and whites (11.22%). Including Rhini township, the Grahamstown urban area has a population of around 67,264. The city is rich in history and culture, with many historic sites and a vibrant arts scene.
