Magnificent mosque on the left bank of the River Klip in Ladysmith.
It was on this same site, in Ladysmith, that the first Muslim traders arrived in 1885. Businessmen and worshippers then had the first mosque built in wood and iron by Hazrah Soofie Saheb, sent as a missionary to South Africa. It was built in 1898. In 1969, the Sufi Mosque was built in the footsteps of her older sister. On the left bank of the Klip River, the magnificent mosque is accessed by a narrow footbridge. Its white mantle architecture rises into the sky.
