INKAMANA ABBEY
Church whose interior has been restored to house Zulu artworks.
Inkamana is a distortion of the Zulu word Inqamana, which means "the place of battle. At this site, during the reign of King Mpande (1840-1872), a battle took place between Chief Nhlaka Mdlalose and Chief Zikale Ngwane, on the grounds that the latter had disrespected the ruler. The church was built and completed in 1952. The mission was established by German Benedictine monks. In 1997, the interior was restored to accommodate Zulu art. The serenity of this place and the beauty of the abbey on the edge of a lake are worth a visit.
