BERGTHEIL LOCAL HISTORY MUSEUM
House museum recounting the role of German settlers in the development of Westville, Cleremont and New Germany.
This 1840 mansion is the oldest building in Westville. It belonged to Jonas Begtheil, a German settler, then director of the Natal Cotton Company. Thick stone walls, yellowood floors... This house-museum traces the role of German colonists in the development of the Westville, Cleremont and New Germany neighbourhoods. There is also an exhibition of traditional Zulu arts and crafts, as well as an overview of Hindu and Muslim culture in Durban.
