This coastal reserve, Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve, is managed by the very serious Natal Parks Board. It occupies about twenty hectares of coppice and dunes, 26 hectares to be exact. It can be visited freely from sunrise to sunset. It is an easy walk of only two kilometers, along the Indian Ocean, through the wild dunes. It is home to the lagoon and the mouth of the Ohlanga River. Start near the Breakers Hotel at the northern end of the resort.
