IN DE WAAG
Historic café-restaurant located on Nieuwmarkt square in Amsterdam.
Over 500 years old, the Waag was once a public weighbridge. It dominates the Nieuwmarkt and for a century and a half was the city's eastern gateway (the Sint Antoniespoort). It later served as the setting for various guilds. The building is a classic of the capital's image, which has since adapted to modern times, and is well worth admiring on a stroll through the district. It was here that Rembrandt sketched his painting Professor Tulp's Anatomy Lesson. It's a great place to eat in a historic setting.
