Superb proeflokaal of the hypercentre, ideal place for a tasting in a charming and photogenic historical setting
To take a step back in history, head to this tasting room behind Dam Square. It's one of the city's oldest proeflokaal, opened in 1619 (no less!). You'll be immersed in the city's history. This old distillery is one of the most authentic, with its little counter and barrels of gin lined up there for centuries. You can drink standing up, watched over by the portraits of Amsterdam's mayors painted on the bottles. This is one of the best places in town to try a variety of genevas. Beware, this café closes very early.
