SAINT-MARTIN

November in the Netherlands is marked by a particularly eagerly awaited celebration for children: St. Martin's Day, on November 11. On this evening, the streets come alive with groups of children carrying colorful lanterns and singing traditional songs in exchange for sweets and fruit, much like Halloween. Everyone takes part in this festive event, where the little ones are often accompanied by their parents, and neighbors get ready by buying sweets for the local children. Even the stores get in on the act.
