Jordaan, one of the capital's most popular and charming districts, is home to two major festivals in September that celebrate the "levenslied", the popular and traditional song that was born in this district. The Elandsgrachtfestival (the Jordaan Coffee Festival) and the Jordaanfestival are (highly alcoholic) events not to be missed by fans of the genre. Others will abstain or look at it with a certain critical distance. These events are quite typical, however.
