ZUIDERKERK - SOUTHERN CHURCH
4 Reformed churches in 4 corners of the city: the Zuiderkerk, the Westerkerk, the Noorderkerk and the Oosterkerk in Amsterdam.
In 1578, Amsterdam, then Catholic, became a Reformed city. All Catholic churches were converted into Protestant ones, and in the 17th century, the Calvinists erected four Reformed churches around the city: the Westerkerk, the Noorderkerk, the Oosterkerk and the Zuiderkerk. Three of Rembrandt's four children are buried in the Zuiderkerk. Overlooking the city's most beautiful canal, its exterior was immortalized by the painter Claude Monet.
