WESTERKERK - CHURCH OF THE WEST
Church located in Amsterdam, built in 1631 by Pieter de Keyser, became a symbol of the Jordaan district
This magnificent church was built in 1631 by Pieter de Keyser to plans drawn up by his father, Hendrick. It is the symbol of the Jordaan, even though it is located just outside the district. Rembrandt is buried here, but exactly where is not known. The church's sober interior lends itself to introspection. The 85-metre-high bell tower offers a sublime view of the Jordaan (but is currently under renovation), and the carillon is renowned. The Westermarkt square is home to a statue of Anne Frank.
