PORTUGUESE SYNAGOGUE
A magnificent synagogue built in the 17th century for Sephardic Jews from Spain and Portugal. Its atmosphere is magnificent.
Built in 1675, this huge synagogue is a spectacular stone building still in use today. Its construction was commissioned by Jews from Spain and Portugal who had fled their countries under the Inquisition. The building, oriented towards the Temple of Jerusalem, is lit by large, magnificent skylights. The interior is also unchanged since the 17th century: no heating or electricity, just sand on the floor for humidity and candles for warmth. A must-see, the atmosphere here is timeless.

To see flawless. One of the most impressive buildings in Amsterdam.
